Five Core Rules of Basic Strategy

Always Split Aces and 8s – two Aces give you two hands each starting at 11, while two 8s (worth 16) make up the weakest hand and should always be split.

Never Split 10s – a value of 20 is nearly impossible for the dealer to beat. Splitting 10s is a serious strategic mistake, no matter how tempting it feels to play two hands of 10.

Double Down on 11 is almost always – unless the dealer shows an Ace. A value of 11 is the strongest position for a Double Down, as the chances of drawing a 10 or face card next are high.

Stand on 12–16 when the Dealer shows 2–6 – let the dealer bust. When the dealer shows a weak card, the bust risk is high. Don't take the risk of busting yourself.
